COURSE OVERVIEW AND OBJECTIVES

 

The Snowcat Operator Certification training is a comprehensive program including two days of intense classroom instruction and two days of practical field safety training, with the focus on safety & survival techniques, specialized equipment training, and snowcat repair under emergency conditions.

 

Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive the Safety One Certification and will be able to:

  • Operate snowcats efficiently to improve productivity
  • Handle common emergency repairs on snow vehicles and tracked all-terrain vehicles
  • Stay safe in extreme weather conditions in remote areas

COURSE DURATION: Four Days (32 hours)

AUDIENCE & PREREQUISITES

AUDIENCE

 

This course was developed for men and women who operate tracked vehicles in snow or extreme climate conditions.

 

OSHA states that employers must ensure that, prior to operating any equipment the person is qualified or certified to operate the equipment

PREREQUISITES FOR THIS COURSE

 

Students must have mental and physical aptitude for operating equipment in back country environments.

REGULATIONS & STANDARDS

OSHA

 

This course meets OSHA Regulations and requirements as summarized below:

  • Employers shall furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment, which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees.
  • Employees are required to be trained in safety-related work practices and safe work procedures for the hazards they may face on the job site.
  • Employers must certify that appropriate training has been received and maintained for each employee whose job interfaces with a snowcat or cold weather environment.

 

General Duty Clause Section 5a1, cold weather stress equation, winter preparedness requirements, weather ready nation program recommendations, training standards within 1910.268, 1910.269 and numerous others.
